It’s an all-comic showdown as Marvel takes on DC in this
heavyweight prelim. “The Incredible Hok” Hokit (7-0, 1-0 UFC) and
his 100% finish rate aim to smash anyone getting in his way. A
couple years older but having show the ability to go three full
rounds if necessary, “Luke Fox” Freeman (7-1, 1-0 UFC) will hoist
the mantle of Batwing. The big men will receive oversight from
referee Mark Smith, who will keep things on the up-and-up between
these destructive forces. They do not touch gloves, as Hokit instead wants to bull-rush his
opponent and dive after his legs for a takedown. Hokit lifts his
man off the ground and gingerly deposits him to the mat, and he
grazes the forehead with an elbow. Freeman scrambles to turn to his
knees, and Hokit knees him in the side before wrenching him
face-first to the mat. Freeman posts off his hands with Hokit
behind him, and “The Incredible Hok” gets off a punch or two before
Freeman scoots his way to the fence. Hokit hands on from behind but
cannot keep Freeman down, although he trips his inside leg in hopes
of grounding “Luke Fox” again. Freeman shoves him away and they
reset in striking range. Hokit flicks out a jab that makes Freeman
react poorly, and he probes the body with the front of his foot.
Backing off Freeman with his big-swinging fists, Hokit walks his
man down and hammers him with punches to the head and midsection.
Freeman swings back valiantly, but Hokit drills him with a hard
uppercut that drops him down to the floor. Hokit briefly considers threatening with a choke from behind, but
he elects to ground-and-pound the Kill Cliff FC fighter. Freeman
keeps twisting and turning to show he is still intelligently
defending himself and moving, and Hokit takes his foot off the gas
so he does not burn out his energy reserves. Freeman clings to his
opponent’s wrist to stifle some of the beating, and he gets pulled
down to the mat again when hoping to escape. Hokit begins to spank
Freeman a few times to draw a reaction out of the crowd, and
Freeman explodes to his feet and drapes his arm over the cage wall.
Smith largely admonishes him for this, and Freeman twists around
and shoots in for a desperate takedown. Hokit busts him in the
chops with an uppercut and easily spins him around and decides to
let Freeman up, because Freeman appears out of gas four-ish minutes
in. Freeman once more stands, and Hokit lays into him with knees
and punches. Freeman turns tail and runs away, and he gets smacked with a kick
on his shoulder on the way out. Freeman stumbles and falls to a
knee with one second left, and Hokit flips him the middle finger.
Smith determines that even though Hokit was nowhere near “Luke
Fox,” Freeman had physically surrendered by dropping to a knee just
before the bell sounded and steps in. The stoppage is
an odd one, as the last strike was an off-balance body kick that
careened off Freeman’s upper arm and seemingly not a fight-ending
blow. Nevertheless, the stoppage stands, in what will appear to be
a technical knockout due to a retirement. This makes Hokit, who has
built a little momentum as an undefeated finisher with a penchant
for off-the-wall interviews, $25K wealthier, and he dons sunglasses
and a bandana reminiscent of the pro wrestlers of old. He proceeds
to deliver a similarly wrestling-inspired interview that will
definitely put him on the map, one that needs to be seen to be
believed.

Who’s up for a rousing fight card during the day stateside on a
Saturday? Fight fans in the U.S. may grumble about having to get
out of bed early for prelims, meanwhile the Euro faithful are
thanking their lucky stars to not have to pull one more all-nighter
to cover this beautiful sport of ours. Inside of the ABHA Arena in
Doha, Qatar, the UFC makes its first appearance and has plenty of
Russians and those from the CIS represented on the lineup. The
first of a whopping 14 contests today comes in the heavyweight
division, as a pair of big men with 11 finishes across their 12
victories ply their trades against one another. Both Bujlo (6-0,
0-0 UFC) and “Luke Fox” Freeman (6-1, 0-0 UFC) will be making their
organizational debuts, and referee Rich Mitchell may end up with a
souvenir based on how hard these two plan to swing on one another.
Their huge fists nearly come together before they try to lop one
another’s head off, and it’s on with the show. Bujlo may have tried to touch gloves, but Freeman would rather get
right into his preferred range lobbing low kicks. He scores a few
as the pace is slow in the early going, popping the Polish man with
them until Bujlo rushes him with a short flurry. Freeman checks one
coming back and drills his man with a straight left hand down the
pipe. The two, in opposing stances with Freeman southpaw to Bujlo
orthodox, paw at one another trying to figure out their distance.
Bujlo catches Freeman with a few punches, drawing a smile from the
American. Freeman sinks in a body kick during a dull moment. Bujlo low kicks his way in to toss out a right hand, and Freeman
catches him with an intercepting check right hook. Neither man is
willing to engage fully, as both appear to be pulling their strikes
and only putting a small percentage behind them. Freeman uses a
high knee shield to block a kick, and a second from Bujlo gets
through to his sternum. Calves of the big men are starting to glow
from the few but effective low kicks landed thus far, likely the
best blows of the tepid match so far. Fans begin to boo them as
they want action, and the heavyweights remain overly cautious.
Pitter-patter strikes land from either man, giving the judges very
little to score. Freeman spurs into action with seconds to go with
a spinning kick to the ribs, possibly stealing the round with that

The second frame begins much like how the first left off, with
little more offered on either side than a few sporadic calf kicks.
Bujlo offers up an axe kick from up close, but somehow misses the
mark and goes back to kicking the American’s front wheel. The kicks
trip up Freeman, forcing him off-balance when he tries to swing. A
left hand from “Luke Fox” goes wide as he loads up a little more on
it than usual, and Bujlo does not falter from feeding him a steady
diet of kicks now. Freeman tries to keep his leg up to check them,
but several get through. The welting is staring to develop
significantly on both men, but they pay it no mind and keep lobbing
kicks. Freeman sneaks a kick through the guard to the breadbasket,
and he fires off another as Bujlo dances out of the way. Bujlo
splits the guard with a right hand, and his low kick on the inside
scores as well. The intensity does not pick up much, as they appear overly
concerned about power or takedowns or something that prohibits them
from pulling the trigger. The color commentators of Michael Bisping
and Paul Felder remark their eight-plus minutes of combat thus far
looks more like a light sparring match than an actual fight.
Bujlo’s strategy draws a reaction from Freeman, a rushing few
strikes on the side of the Georgia native, but Freeman escapes and
has his guard up to block most of the punches. Freeman checks a
kick and sticks out a left hand that bounces off the forehead.
Freeman times a head kick while Bujlo kicks low, and the horn

When the final round kicks off, something actually happens. Freeman
pitches a body kick and slips, falling to his back. The unbeaten
Polish man tackles him down to the ground and climbs into top
control, where he begins to rain down ground-and-pound. Freeman
explodes to get back to his feet, pushing Bujlo back and clubbing
him with a solid left hand, arguably his best after 11 minutes of
this. Things slow down again after scoring the concussive blow, as
he lets Bujlo off the hook as Bujlo was stung. Freeman blocks a
right hand to open up the midsection for a kick, and it lands it
with a popping sound. Freeman lands at the end of a long one-two, and he shoulder rolls a
head kick offering from “Bujdzilla.” Freeman throws one back that
is similarly guarded, and he strafes to the side when Bujlo walks
him down and aims a front kick at his chest. Freeman jabs the body
and slides away, leaving Bujlo’s counters to hit nothing but air.
Freeman sports a thin smile and bounces on his heels seemingly in
good spirits, hopping back and forth with kicks and staying away
from most of what Bujlo has to offer back. They clash together with
kicks, and Freeman lifts his leg preemptively to guard a calf kick.
Bujlo misses on a counter when trying to take advantage of a low
kick stuck out too long from the American, who replies with a
spinning wheel kick. The horrid excuse of a fight ends with a
switch kick offered and inaccurate by Freeman, and let us never
